The club was delighted to host the Middlesex Indoor Finals day on Saturday 28th March. This is an annual event with eight finals between the qualifier from the “North” and the qualifier from the “South”. Thus an annual chance to claim bragging rights for the year.
The morning session began with the Ladies Singles, Ladies Pairs and Men’s Fours
In a close singles match Cathy Taylor of Cambridge Park pipped Angela Frankland of Bounds Green. A remarkable finish saw Lawns overcome a three shot deficit by scoring a four on the last end in the Ladies Pairs. And a dominant performance from Lawns saw them always ahead and able to see off a late challenge from Hounslow in the Men’s Fours.
2-1 to the North
The lunchtime session added three more ties. A very high quality match saw Paul Smyth of Bounds Green establish an early lead that saw him get over the line despite a strong comeback from Dave Pitt of Hounslow. A very strong performance from our own Century pair of Tom Smith and Kembra Healey score a convincing win over Bounds Green in the Mixed Pairs. And a very impressive performance from Lawns saw them overcome a Century pair of Dave Baxter and Sean Reilly in the Men’s Pairs.
So 4-2 to the North
The evening session saw two more ties played. A Bounds Green four always had too much for their Cambridge Park opponents in the Mixed Fours. Our own Men’s triple were always ahead against Lawns until a dramatic second last end saw them drop a five to set up a grandstand finish. Dave Baxter dug deep to pull out a great last bowl to secure the win when the match was poised to go to an extra end. Congratulations to Vikash, Nick and Dave on a fine win against strong opposition
So overall 5-3 to the North
In terms of individual club wins the tally was
Lawns 3
Bounds Green 2
Century 2
Cambridge Park 1
